Korean Style Meatballs

These meatballs can be a 5-minute crockpot meal or you can make your own meatballs.  This is a great potluck dish or serve with buns or over rice with some veggies for a quick weeknight meal.  If you're making your own meatballs, you can toss them with sauce and serve immediately or just keep them warm in the crockpot.

Ingredients:

  • 2-3 pounds of frozen meatballs (or make your own, see below)
  • 1 bottle of Dirty Apron Korean Style BBQ Sauce

Directions:

  1. Put your meatballs into the crock pot and pour the sauce over them, give it a quick stir and cook on low until they are warmed through and ready to serve.
  2. If you're feeling fancy you can sprinkle some sesame seeds and chopped green onions

Homemade Meatballs:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup white bread torn into pieces (maybe 1-2 slices)
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground Italian sausage (sweet or spicy is fine)
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 tsp salt

Directions:

  1. Put the milk into a bowl and soak the bread for about 5 minutes, then gently squeeze the bread to get excess milk out, dump the milk and tear the bread into small pieces (pea sized)
  2. Add the beef, sausage, eggs and salt.  Mix gently, the texture will get tough if you overmix it.
  3. Roll the mixture into ping pong sized balls.  Wet hands are best for this, I keep a bowl of water next to me while I'm making the balls.  Put them on a greased baking sheet, make sure they have space between them.
  4. Bake at 500 for 4-5 minutes then turn them and give them another 4-5 minutes.  Serve with Korean Style Sauce.
